The Rhoades Wall Sconce runs a slim tapered arm up the wall and finishes in a linen shade — a vertical line rather than a fixture bolted to the plaster. The metal is wrapped along its length, so the arm carries a fine texture that holds up at close range as well as from across the room.

The linen diffuses rather than blocks, so light comes through the weave soft and without glare from a seated position. Choose the single arm for a narrow wall — beside a bed, flanking a mirror, up a stairwell — and the double arm where the sconce has to hold a larger wall on its own. Both stand 20.4″ tall. The two options differ in width, not height. ∅ 5.5″ is the single-arm version and ∅ 13″ is the two-light version — both stand 20.4″ tall and both project 6″ from the wall.

How High to Mount It	The usual rule is 60–66″ from the floor to the centre of the junction box — roughly eye level standing. Beside a bed, drop it lower, to around 48″, so the light falls on the page rather than past your shoulder. Flanking a mirror, align the centre with your own eye height rather than with the mirror.
Spacing a Run	Down a hallway, set single-arm sconces 6–8 ft apart so the pools of light overlap slightly rather than leaving dark stretches between them. Either side of a bed or a mirror, the pair should be symmetrical about the centre line of whatever they flank, not about the wall.
Projection and Clearance	The fixture stands 6″ out from the wall face. In a private home that is comfortable in a hallway of normal width, though worth checking against a narrow passage or a door swing before you commit to a position. For commercial, hospitality or multi-family common areas, note that ADA limits wall-mounted projections to 4″ between 27″ and 80″ above the floor — mount above 80″, choose a recessed alternative for those routes, or contact us through our trade program and we will help you specify.
Buying a Pair	Most of these go up two at a time. Select a variant marked “* 2” if you want two of the same sconce — a pair costs less than two singles ordered separately, and it arrives in one shipment.
Setup	Hardwired to a standard wall junction box and run from your existing wall switch — no plug. E12 bulbs sold separately; a warm white around 2700K suits the linen. Installation by a qualified electrician recommended.

Off and On

What the Linen Does to the Wall

A sconce is judged by what happens to the wall behind it. Off, this is a shape and a texture. On, it is two soft pools of light and a glowing shade with no hard edge anywhere.

Unlit A Vertical Line and a Wrapped Arm In daylight what you read is the proportion and the texture: a slim arm running 20.4″ up the wall, wrapped along its length so a fine ribbed line catches whatever light comes across it, finishing in a tapered shade of flat matte linen. This is how the sconce looks for most of the day — which is the argument for detailing the arm rather than leaving it as plain tube.

Lit Through the Weave, Then Onto the Wall The shade is open at the top and the bottom, so light leaves in two directions and washes the wall above and below rather than stopping at the fixture. What passes through the linen itself comes out warm and even — the weave diffuses instead of blocking, so the shade glows across its whole face with no bright edge and no visible bulb from any angle you would stand at.

The Wall Matters	Two-directional light shows off whatever it lands on. On plaster, limewash or a matte paint the wash reads soft and graduated, as in the second photograph. On gloss paint or a smooth panel it reflects harder and the effect flattens. On a textured or plastered wall the raking light picks up the grain — often the best result of the three.
How Much Light	This is accent and ambient lighting, not task lighting. A single arm lights the wall it sits on and the immediate area around it; it will get you down a hallway or through a bedtime chapter, but a room lit only by sconces will read moody rather than bright. Down a hallway, plan on several rather than one.
Choosing the Bulb	E12 base, bulbs sold separately. A warm white around 2700K is what these photographs use and what suits natural linen — the fabric is slightly warm to begin with, so a cool bulb fights it and the shade reads a flat clinical white. If you are fitting a pair or a run, use the same bulb in every one: mismatched colour temperature is obvious the moment two sconces share a wall.

Gold or Black

Same Sconce, Two Different Walls

Both finishes cost the same and carry the same white linen shade. The choice is not really about the metal — it is about how much you want the arm to show against the wall you are hanging it on.

Option One Gold — Warm and Continuous The warm metal sits close in tone to the linen above it, so the sconce reads as one continuous object rather than a shade balanced on a stick. Against a cream, plaster, greige or wood-panelled wall it settles in quietly and picks up whatever warm light is already in the room. Choose gold when: the wall is pale or warm, the room already has brass or wood, or you want the fixture to feel soft rather than graphic.

Option Two Black — Drawn, Not Blended The dark arm separates hard from the pale shade, so what you see is a line drawn up the wall with a lit shape at the top. On a white or light wall that contrast is the whole point; the sconce reads as graphic rather than decorative, and it holds its own next to art or a dark frame. Choose black when: the wall is white or cool, the room has black window frames or hardware, or you want the vertical line to be visible from across the room.

What Does Not Change	Both finishes are the same price and carry the same white linen shade. Dimensions, projection, bulb fitting and mounting are identical — so is the quality of the light, since that comes from the shade rather than the metal.
Matching the Room	The usual advice is to pick up something already in the room rather than introducing a third metal — door handles, cabinet pulls, a mirror frame, the taps. If the room has both, go with whichever sits closest to the sconce's own wall.
Ordering More Than One	Keep a pair or a run in the same finish. Mixing gold and black across one wall or one hallway reads as an accident rather than a decision — and the wrapped texture catches light differently in each, so they will not balance.

Where to Put It

Mounting Beside a Bed

Lower than you would mount a sconce anywhere else. The point is to put light on the page rather than past your shoulder, so the shade wants to sit just above your head when you are sitting up in bed.

Height	48″ from the floor. That puts the lower edge of the shade at roughly seated eye level on a standard bed, which is where light falls on a page instead of into your face. On a low platform bed drop it to 44″; on a tall bed with a thick mattress take it to 52″. Measure from your own mattress rather than copying the number.
Distance Out	8–10″ from the edge of the headboard, not from the corner of the room. Closer and the shade sits over your shoulder; further and the light lands on the nightstand rather than on you. Walls are rarely symmetrical about a bed — the eye reads the bed as the centre line, so measure both sconces from the headboard.
Clearance	The fixture stands 6″ out from the wall. If a nightstand is going underneath, check that clears whatever will sit on it — a tall vase or a stack of books can end up against the shade. Worth mocking up with a tape measure before the electrician arrives.
Before the Wiring Goes In	This is a hardwired fixture, so the junction box position is decided before the sconce arrives — and moving it later means patching and repainting. Mark both positions in pencil and live with them for a day before anyone cuts into the wall.

Important: Items that have been installed, have broken wiring, or loose crystals are not eligible for return.

All returned items must meet the following requirements:

• Original Condition: Must be unused, unworn, and include all original tags, labels, and packaging.

• Complete Accessories: All accessories, manuals, and included items must be intact. Items requiring assembly must be returned unassembled.

• Proof of Purchase: You must provide a valid order number or proof of purchase.

Exceptions – Cannot Be Returned:

• Customized, modified, or special-order items (including products marked “Custom Invoice,” “Made to Order,” or “Final Sale”).

• Items not in their original condition or packaging (used or altered).

• Returns caused by misunderstanding the product listing.

2. Eligible for Returns/Exchanges

Customers are entitled to a full refund or replacement in the following cases:

4. Shipping Costs for Customer-Initiated Returns

If a return is initiated due to the customer’s personal reasons, the customer is responsible for the return shipping costs. The exact fee depends on the chosen courier service. Customer-related reasons include:

• The customer finds the size too small or too large;

• The customer believes the color does not match expectations;

• The customer wants to return the product for personal reasons (e.g., changed mind or no longer needs the item);

• Exchanges: We will process your return within 3–5 business days after receiving the returned item, and ship the replacement once the inspection is completed.

6. European Union 14-Day Cooling-Off Period
