Description

The Lumen Crystal Teardrop Pendant is built around a material that behaves differently from the glass most clear pendants are made of. Crystal carries a higher refractive index, which means light entering its wall bends further before it leaves — and this shade has the wall thickness to make that visible, with a solid rim of crystal at the base before the opening begins. Ordinary glass in this shape would simply look transparent. Here every curve becomes an optical surface: the edges hold a bright line, the base rim gathers light into a ring, and a single filament repeats across the whole form.

Above it, a polished nickel triangular ring hangs the teardrop from a rigid rod rather than a cord, so it stays exactly where you set it and never twists out of line. Rods come in 6″, 12″ and 18″ sections that combine to set your drop — the same fixture works over a kitchen island at eight feet and down a stairwell at sixteen. The metal is polished nickel over solid brass: the plating gives the mirror finish, the brass underneath gives it weight and keeps the surface stable at the edges. A crystal pendant light for an island, a dining table, a stairwell, or anywhere a small point of light should be worth looking at.

Why This One

Crystal Thick Enough to Bend Light

01

Crystal, Not Just Glass

Crystal carries a higher refractive index than ordinary glass — light entering the wall bends further before it leaves. Combine that with real wall thickness and every curve becomes an optical surface: the edges hold a bright line, the base rim gathers light into a ring, and a single filament repeats across the whole form. Ordinary glass this shape would simply look transparent.

02

The Filament Is the Fixture

With clear crystal there is nothing to hide behind, so the bulb becomes part of the design rather than something the shade conceals. Fit a warm LED filament and the shade turns into a lens: the filament sits at the centre and repeats at every curve and edge around it. Choose the bulb as carefully as you chose the fixture — here it is fully on show.

03

A Rod, Not a Cord

The pendant hangs from a rigid rod, so it stays exactly where you set it — no twisting out of line, no slow drift out of plumb, and no cord to shorten later. Rods come in 6″, 12″ and 18″ sections that combine to set the drop, which is what lets the same fixture work over an island and down a stairwell.

04

Nickel Over Brass, Not Over Steel

The rod, loop and canopy are solid brass with a polished nickel finish over it. Plating over brass holds better than plating over steel — brass does not rust underneath, so if the surface is ever scratched at an edge there is nothing corroding beneath to lift the finish away. It also gives the metal weight in the hand, which is what you notice when the fixture arrives.

Caring for crystal and plated brass: clear crystal shows dust and fingerprints more readily than frosted glass, and thick crystal shows them twice — once on the surface and again refracted through the wall. A dry microfibre cloth handles both the crystal and the metal; on the crystal, a barely damp cloth followed immediately by a dry one leaves no streaks. No abrasive pads, and no metal polish on the plated finish. Switch the power off at the wall and let the bulb cool before cleaning — and support the shade from below while you wipe it, since the weight sits at the base.

Size & Drop

The Shade Is One Size. The Drop Is Yours.

Three rod lengths ship with every pendant. Combine them on site to set exactly how low it hangs — which is what makes the same fixture work over an island and down a stairwell.

⌀ 5.9″  ×  H 13.4″
Shade only · rods 6″, 12″ and 18″ included · combine for up to 36″ of rod

13.4″

shade height

Add this to your rod length to get the total drop from the ceiling. A 12″ rod puts the bottom of the crystal roughly 26″ below the canopy, once the ring and socket are counted.

5.9″

shade diameter

Narrow enough to hang in a row without crowding. Over an island, allow 24–30″ between centres for three pendants — close enough to read as a set, far enough that each keeps its own pool of light.

6+12+18

rods included

Use one, two or all three. That gives you 6, 12, 18, 24, 30 or 36 inches of rod — enough range to cover an 8 ft ceiling and a 12 ft one. Beyond that, ask us before ordering.

How Low Should It Hang?

Measured from the bottom of the crystal, not the canopy

ceiling floor total drop 30–36″ over an island or table 7 ft min in a walkway or stairwell 20–24″ beside a bed

Drawn to scale. Furniture shown for reference only and is not included.

A line drawing gives the crystal shade as 5.9 inches across and 13.4 inches tall, with three rod lengths beside it.
Working Out Your Rods Measure from the ceiling to where you want the bottom of the crystal to sit, then subtract about 15″ for the shade, ring and socket. What is left is your rod length — round to the nearest combination of 6, 12 and 18. On an 8 ft ceiling over a 36″ island, that usually lands on a single 6″ or 12″ rod.
Hanging a Row Over an island, three pendants at 24–30″ between centres is the usual spacing, with the outer two set in from the ends of the counter rather than aligned to them. Each needs its own junction box, and all three are normally run to one switch — tell your electrician before the ceiling is closed up.
Installation Hardwired ceiling mount, and a licensed electrician is the right call. Fit one E12 candelabra bulb, max 40W — note the smaller base, since an E26 bulb will not fit. A 2700K LED filament is the intended look. Turn the power off at the breaker before any work begins.

Get the drop right the first time: rods are fitted at installation, so decide the height before the electrician arrives rather than after. If your ceiling is above 10 ft or you are hanging into a stairwell, contact us before ordering — we can supply a longer rod with the fixture rather than leaving you to source one afterwards.

How It's Made

Three Places to Look Closely

On a fixture this simple — one shade, one rod, one ring — the workmanship shows in a small number of places. These are the three worth examining before you buy.

Seen from below, a deep ring of solid crystal surrounds the opening beneath the bulb.

The Rim You Can Measure

Look at the base from underneath and the wall thickness is impossible to miss — a deep band of solid crystal running all the way round the opening. This is the single clearest test of a clear pendant: hold a thin one and a thick one side by side and the difference is in the rim, not the shape. It is also where the crystal gathers light into a ring once the bulb is on.

A tapered loop passes through a collar to carry the shade from the rod above.

The Loop That Carries It

A tapered loop passes through a collar at the base of the rod and takes the whole weight of the crystal below. It is a single piece of formed brass rather than a bracket assembled from parts — and the taper is deliberate: it echoes the shape of the teardrop hanging under it, so the two forms read as one gesture.

A shallow round canopy sits flush to the ceiling where the rod passes through it.

The Canopy at the Ceiling

A shallow round plate that sits flush rather than standing proud, wide enough to cover a standard junction box and no wider. On a pendant read from below, the canopy is the part you see most often and think about least — a deep or oversized one is the first thing that makes a slim fixture look bulky.

Hand-Blown, Not Moulded Each shade is blown by hand, so wall thickness varies slightly around the form and no two are optically identical — the highlights fall in marginally different places from one piece to the next. A moulded shade would be uniform and would read as such. Small internal bubbles and faint tool marks are evidence of the process, not flaws in it.
Brass Under the Plating Rod, loop, collar and canopy are solid brass finished in polished nickel — the same material and the same plating throughout, so nothing reads as a part sourced separately. Plating over brass is more stable than plating over steel: brass does not corrode underneath, so a scratch at an edge stays a scratch rather than becoming a lifting patch.
Open at the Bottom The shade is open beneath rather than closed, which puts a direct pool of light on the surface below and leaves the bulb visible from underneath. Over an island or a table that is exactly what you want; in a walkway where people pass under it at eye level, hang it high enough that the opening is above the line of sight.

Living with crystal and plated brass: both show fingerprints, and thick crystal shows them twice — once on the surface and again refracted through the wall. A dry microfibre cloth handles both; on the crystal, a barely damp cloth followed immediately by a dry one leaves no streaks. No abrasive pads, and no metal polish on the plated finish. Support the shade from below while you wipe it, since the weight sits at the base.

Why Crystal

Light Goes Through Glass. It Travels Inside Crystal.

This is the whole reason for the material, and it is easier to see in a diagram than to describe. Thin glass lets light pass; thick crystal bends it, holds it, and gives it back at the edges.

Thin glass light passes straight through the wall is a transparent skin Thick crystal light bends, travels, returns at the edge edges and base rim hold the light

Diagram, not a photograph — drawn to show how light behaves in each wall.

Unlit

Unlit, bright lines run down the curve of the crystal where the wall catches the room light.

It Works Without a Bulb

Switched off, the crystal is still doing something — daylight entering the wall runs down the curve as a bright vertical line, and the base rim reads as a solid band. A thin glass shade in the same light would simply be transparent. This is why the pendant holds up in a room that is bright by day.

Lit

With the filament on, the crystal repeats it at every curve and gathers a ring at the base.

The Filament, Repeated

With a bulb inside, the effect turns inward. The filament sits at the centre and reappears refracted at every curve, while the thick base rim gathers light into a ring you can see from across the room. Nothing is frosted or coated — all of it is the shape of the crystal doing the work.

Why Thickness Matters Refraction happens at every surface light crosses, but the effect is only visible if the light spends time inside the material. A thin wall gives it nowhere to travel. This shade has enough wall for the path to bend measurably — which is why the edges brighten and the base rim glows rather than the whole thing simply looking see-through.
Choose the Bulb Carefully A clear shade hides nothing, so the bulb is part of what you are buying. A warm LED filament at 2700K is what these photographs use — the visible filament gives the crystal something worth refracting. A frosted or globe-shaped bulb removes that point source entirely and the effect goes with it. One E12 candelabra base, max 40W.
On a Dimmer Worth wiring to one. At full output the filament dominates; dimmed to a low ember, the bright edges and the base ring become the brightest parts of the fixture and the crystal reads as the light source rather than the bulb inside it. Fit a dimmable E12 and a compatible wall dimmer.

One thing to expect: clear crystal shows dust and fingerprints more readily than any frosted shade, and thick crystal shows them twice — once on the surface and again refracted through the wall. It wipes clean in seconds with a dry microfibre cloth, but it is not a fixture you can hang and forget for a year.

Hang a Row

One Is a Detail. Three Is a Ceiling.

At 5.9″ across, this is a pendant built to repeat. A single one lights a spot; a row of three carries the length of a counter and turns the ceiling above it into part of the room.

Three crystal pendants hang evenly along a wooden bar counter, each throwing its own pool of light.

Three pendants at even centres, each on its own junction box, all on one switch.

Setting Out a Row of Three

Measured centre to centre, with the outer two set in from the ends

ceiling counter or island 24–30″ 24–30″ set in set in

Drawn to scale. Counter shown for reference only and is not included.

How Many, and How Far Apart 24–30″ between centres is the working range. On a counter up to about 5 ft, two pendants; from 6 to 8 ft, three; beyond that, four. Set the outer two in from the ends rather than aligned to them — about a third of the spacing — so the row reads as centred on the counter rather than stretched to fill it.
Same Rods in Every One Use the identical rod combination across the row so all three hang at exactly the same height. A row is the one arrangement where a difference of half an inch is obvious — the eye reads the line along the bottoms of the shades, not each pendant on its own. Measure once and cut nothing; the rods thread together to fixed lengths.
Wiring a Row Each pendant needs its own junction box, and all of them are normally run to a single switch. Mark the positions and tell your electrician before the ceiling is closed up — moving a box afterwards means opening the ceiling again. Three E12 bulbs at 40W each draw 120W in total, well within a standard lighting circuit.
Match the Bulbs Same bulb in all three — same colour temperature, same filament shape, ideally the same brand. Clear crystal hides nothing, so three visibly different filaments read as three different fixtures. This matters more here than on any shaded pendant.

Before you order a set: each shade is hand-blown, so wall thickness varies slightly from piece to piece and the highlights fall in marginally different places. Across a row that variation reads as depth rather than as a fault — but order them together so they come from the same run, and tell us it is a set of three so we pick them as a group.

Where It Goes

Three Rooms, Three Drops

The same fixture reads differently depending on how low it hangs and what sits beneath it. These are the three arrangements the rods are built for.

A cluster of crystal pendants hangs above a marble island, each holding its own bright edge.

01  Kitchen

Above a Marble Island

This is where crystal earns its place over glass. A polished stone counter is already a reflective surface, and the open base throws a clean pool straight down onto it — light lands on the stone, bounces, and comes back up into the crystal. Hang the bottom of the shade 30–36″ above the counter: low enough to light the work surface, high enough to see across the island to whoever is on the other side.

Beside a window over a breakfast table, daylight runs down the crystal before the bulb is on.

02  Breakfast Nook

Beside a Window

Near a window the pendant works all day without being switched on. Daylight entering the wall of the crystal runs down the curve as a bright line and gathers at the base rim — a thin glass shade in the same position would simply be transparent and disappear. Same 30–36″ drop above the table, and the smaller 5.9″ shade suits a nook where a wide fixture would fill the window.

A pair hangs low either side of a bed, leaving both nightstands completely clear.

03  Bedroom

Hung Low Beside the Bed

Hung in place of table lamps, a pair leaves both nightstands entirely clear — nothing on the surface, no cords down the wall. Drop them to 20–24″ above the mattress so they sit within reach and the light falls on a page. This is where a dimmer pays off: turned low, the bright edges and base ring become the brightest part of the fixture and the crystal reads as the light itself.

Questions, Answered

Crystal Pendant FAQ

Which bulb does it take, and does the type matter?
One E12 candelabra base, max 40W — note the smaller base: a standard E26 bulb will not fit. Bulbs are not included. The type matters more here than on almost any other fixture: use a clear LED filament at 2700K, because the visible filament is what the crystal refracts and repeats. A frosted or opal bulb removes that point source entirely and the whole optical effect goes with it.
How do I work out which rods I need?
Measure from the ceiling to where you want the bottom of the crystal to sit, then subtract about 15″ for the shade, loop and socket. What remains is your rod length. Rods ship in 6″, 12″ and 18″ sections and thread together, giving you 6, 12, 18, 24, 30 or 36 inches. On an 8 ft ceiling over a standard island, that usually lands on a single 6″ or 12″ rod. For a ceiling above 10 ft or a stairwell, contact us before ordering and we will supply a longer rod with the fixture.
How low should it hang?
Over an island or dining table, leave 30–36″ between the counter and the bottom of the crystal — low enough to light the surface, high enough to see across. In a walkway or stairwell, keep at least 7 ft of clearance to the floor. Beside a bed, 20–24″ above the mattress puts it within reach. Because the shade is open underneath, hang it above eye level anywhere people pass directly beneath it.
Is it glare-y? The glass is completely clear.
It depends where you stand. From the side the crystal spreads and refracts the light, so what you see is bright edges rather than a bare bulb. From directly underneath the bulb is visible, since the shade is open at the base — over a counter that is exactly what you want, because it puts a clean pool of light on the surface. In a corridor, hang it high enough that the opening sits above the line of sight, or fit a lower-wattage bulb.
How many should I hang over an island?
24–30″ between centres is the working range. A counter up to about 5 ft takes two; 6 to 8 ft takes three; beyond that, four. Set the outer two in from the ends rather than aligned to them, by roughly a third of the spacing. Each pendant needs its own junction box, and all of them normally run to one switch — mark the positions before the ceiling is closed up.
Will every shade look the same?
No, and that is the material. Each shade is hand-blown, so wall thickness varies slightly around the form and the highlights fall in marginally different places from one piece to the next. Small internal bubbles and faint tool marks are evidence of the process rather than flaws in it — a moulded shade would be uniform and would read as such. If you are ordering a row, order them together and tell us it is a set, so they come from the same run.
Is clear crystal hard to keep clean?
It shows more than a frosted shade would, and thick crystal shows it twice — once on the surface and again refracted through the wall. But it wipes clean in seconds: a dry microfibre cloth for dust, and for fingerprints a barely damp cloth followed immediately by a dry one. No abrasive pads, and no metal polish on the plated finish. Support the shade from below while you wipe it, since the weight sits at the base. Switch the power off and let the bulb cool first.

Polished Chrome Canopy & Downrod Assembly

A durable metal canopy and matching downrod in a mirror-like polished chrome finish provide a seamless, sturdy ceiling mounting system, ensuring clean lines and long-lasting stability.

You're not just buying a lamp — you're bringing home a piece of art that will light your home for years to come.

The Adrian Teardrop Pendant Series — Where Stories Find Their Light

Every home has a corner that waits for you — the afternoon sun filtering through the blinds, the half-read book on the side table, the throw blanket resting over your favorite lounge chair. The Adrian was made for that corner.

Suspended gracefully from above, its slender downrod pairs with a geometric shackle loop, bridging industrial precision with everyday warmth. Inside its hand-blown teardrop glass shade, a glowing filament casts a gentle, 360-degree ambient light that softens the room — offering quiet companionship for every peaceful evening.

Mid-Century Craftsmanship —

Clarity as Art

The Adrian is sculpted from solid brass and heavy-cast crystal — featuring a streamlined brass downrod, a geometric shackle loop, and a hand-cut teardrop shade polished to crystal-clear perfection.

Nothing is decorative for its own sake. The brass shackle seamlessly links the structural rod to the heavy crystal shade, allowing the weight to suspend in total harmony. Form follows physics.

Of Brass, Crystal, and Timeless Elegance — this is mid-century design at its most refined: honest materials, exposed mechanics, and a silhouette that endures because it was never trying to impress. Only to light beautifully.

Premium
Our Premium Materials

Our Premium Materials

  • High-purity raw crystal — pristine, water-like transparency free of impurities.
  • High refraction index — scatters light effortlessly into a soft, dazzling 360-degree ambient glow.
  • Solid, heavy-cast structure — reassuring weight and substantial thickness that feel premium to the touch.
  • Flawless optical purity — completely free of green edges, ensuring a true, warm color rendering.
Standard Materials

Standard Materials

  • Low-cost soda-lime glass — unrefined raw materials left with a noticeable greenish tint along edges.
  • Low refraction & thin walls — flat, harsh light output with limited brilliance and depth.
  • Lightweight, fragile build — hollow and delicate feel that lacks durability and luxury.
  • Imperfect clarity — visible color distortion that dulls the warmth of your interior lighting.
