The Design
When the Bulb Stopped Hiding
For most of lamp history the light was something to cover up: a bulb, a fabric shade, a room lit by reflection. Mid-century designers took the opposite view, and the light source became the shape of the object.
This lamp follows that line. The glow is a single disc of glass, held up by a bent arch of wood the way a frame holds a picture. Nothing is hidden: you see the light, the glass it passes through and the grain of the wood around it.

Every lamp starts in two places at once. In the wood shop, a solid block is shaped into a round, weighted body. In the glass studio, molten glass is blown and shaped by hand into a thin, flat disc.
The two only meet at the end: the disc is set on the neck, the brass cap goes on top, and the light is switched on for the first time.
