The Selene Alabaster Orb Wall Sconce sets a hand-turned natural alabaster sphere on a clean rectangular metal block, creating a minimalist stone globe wall light that glows like a full moon on the wall. Each orb is cut from real alabaster, so its soft white tone and amber veining are unique to every piece, and when lit the stone turns a warm, even glow with no glare.

Available in brushed nickel or matte black, the slim block base suits modern bedrooms, hallways, stairways and powder room vanities, alone or as a matching pair beside a bed or mirror. Measuring 7.1" W x 10.2" H (18 x 26 cm), it takes 1 x G9 bulb (not included — please buy locally or online) and is hardwired for indoor dry locations.

The Selene sconce is one simple idea done well: a hand-turned sphere of natural alabaster resting on a crisp iron block. By day it reads as a piece of sculpture; at night the stone lights from within and its amber veins appear like the surface of the moon.

Every orb is cut from real stone, so veining, tone and translucency vary from piece to piece.

The Design Story

Named for the moon, designed for the evening.

In Greek myth, Selene drove her silver chariot across the sky each night, pulling the moon behind her. She is the light that arrives when the day is done, which is exactly the moment this sconce was made for.

The brief was simple: one lamp that could change with the evening. We started with the moon itself, the most perfect circle we know, and looked for a material that could hold light the way the moon does. Glass was too bright and too even. Alabaster, a soft natural stone, glowed from within, warm at the centre and cooler at the edge.

Then came the base. Rather than an ornate arm, we set the sphere on a plain block of iron, like a moon resting on a horizon. The contrast keeps the design calm: the stone does the talking, the iron simply holds it.

Selene is built from the two oldest shapes in design. The round stone is the moon, soft and natural. The square block is the horizon, crisp and made by hand. Each makes the other look better.
